JOB TITLE: Childcare Staff
REPORTS TO: Center Director and Assistant Director
POSITION SUMMARY: The Childcare Staff supports the daily operations of the classroom by providing attentive, nurturing care and implementing activities that promote each child’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Working under the direction of the administration and classroom leadership, this position helps maintain a warm, safe, and engaging environment where children can learn and grow. All duties are performed in strict accordance with Iowa licensing requirements, center objectives, and health and safety regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Child Supervision & Safety: Provides consistent, active supervision of children at all times, ensuring physical safety and emotional well-being across all indoor and outdoor settings.Curriculum & Activity Support: Assists the Classroom Lead in planning, preparing, and implementing daily age-appropriate educational activities, routines, and lesson plans.
Classroom Operations & Hygiene: Maintains a safe, sanitary, and highly organized classroom and playground environment. Assists children with meals, snacks, rest time, diapering/toileting, and transitions in accordance with center and CACFP guidelines.
Positive Guidance & Culture: Supports a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages cooperation, curiosity, and mutual respect. Models appropriate, respectful behavior and utilizes approved positive behavior guidance techniques.
Documentation & Parent Communication: Observes and helps document children’s daily milestones, behavior, and development as directed by leadership. Builds positive relationships with families through friendly, professional daily communication during drop-off and pick-up.
Compliance & Professional Development: Follows all Iowa HHS health, safety, and licensing regulations, promptly reporting any facilities or compliance concerns to administration. Participates in all mandatory staff meetings and fulfills ongoing professional development requirements.
Other Duties: Performs all other operational or classroom duties as assigned by the Center Director or Assistant Director to ensure stable continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated experience working with young children in a licensed childcare facility, preschool, or similar structured group setting.
Proven understanding of early childhood development stages and positive behavior management techniques.
Experience working collaboratively within a team teaching environment.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Has obtained a high school diploma or passed a general education development (GED) test.
Preferred: Coursework, credentials, or an Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field.
Holds (or is willing to obtain upon hire) current, active certifications in Infant, Child, and Adult CPR, First Aid, and Iowa’s mandatory reporter training for child abuse.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Schedule Consistency & Flexibility: Required to maintain a dependable, predictable weekly schedule to ensure stable classroom tracking and continuity for the children, while remaining flexible to meet the shifting operational needs of the center.
Playground App Usage: Required to utilize the center's specialized software platform (Playground) for daily shift time-tracking, electronic timecard review, and assigned classroom updates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet minimum age requirements as dictated by Iowa HHS licensing for childcare personnel.
Must pass all state-mandated criminal background checks, fingerprinting, and health/sex offender registries.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a dependable, team-oriented mindset.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to physically respond quickly to the sounds and visual cues of children.
Ability to maintain constant visual supervision of a classroom or outdoor playground setting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None. This position works under the direct supervision of the Center Director, Assistant Director, and Classroom Lead Teachers.
QUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Classroom tablets, mobile devices, and digital applications for parent communication and attendance tracking (Playground platform).
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling on the floor to interact directly with children at their eye level.
Occasional lifting of equipment, supplies, or children up to 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor classroom environments, as well as outdoor playground spaces. Exposure to standard childhood illnesses, moderate-to-high noise levels, and seasonal weather elements during outdoor play.
